Professional Equipment and Diligent Process

Every transfer is performed on meticulously maintained studio-grade tape machines—among the finest ever made—and captured through our high-end studio analog-to-digital converters for unmatched precision.

Each tape is individually calibrated to ensure the most accurate, noise-free transfer possible. This process takes time, but it guarantees that your audio sounds as close to the original source as humanly and mechanically possible.

We also scan or photograph all tape documentation and log every technical detail, including any restoration work completed during transfer.

Tape Baking and Restoration

Tape baking is $75 per batch. Many older tapes or certain tape formulas require low-temperature dehydration (“baking”) before playback to prevent damage. Bake times vary by tape type and will determine the project timeline.

We also provide manual tape cleaning for older tapes whose lubricants have degraded, leaving residue on the surface. Our team carefully removes these contaminants to ensure smooth playback and optimal transfer quality.

For further refinement, we offer digital audio restoration—removing clicks, pops, and pitch artifacts caused by tape wear, as well as correcting dropouts and enhancing clarity. Editing and digital processing services are available upon request.

Noise Reduction and Synchronization

We can decode most noise reduction formats, ensuring your transfer sounds natural and accurate. If a recording made with noise reduction isn’t properly decoded, it will sound unnatural—even to untrained ears.

If documentation doesn’t clearly indicate which noise reduction was used, we can identify and test the appropriate decoding format. We also perform SMPTE-synchronized transfers for projects recorded across multiple tapes.
